A team of surgeons in the Indonesian town of Medan on Tuesday concluded separation surgery on conjoined twins who were fused at the chest and stomach.
The separation surgery began at 09:15 local time in the Adam Malik Hospital and was concluded within one hour and 35 minutes.
The doctors are now separated into two teams to take care of each baby, hospital spokesman Dr. Herry Sudjatmiko was quoted by the Detikcom online news service as saying.
The conjoined girl twins, named as Mariana and Mariani, were born on Aug. 21, 2004 in Aceh and have since been treated at the Adam Malik Hospital in Medan, capital of North Sumatra province.
The surgery and 11-month medical treatment cost about 445 million rupiah (45,408 US dollars), Detikcom said.
