More fire cases, with 24 deaths, reported in Beijing
Twenty-four people were killed and another 49 injured in fire disasters taking place in this Chinese capital of Beijing from January to June this year.
A report released by the municipal fire control brigade said there were 4,320 cases of fire in the city in the first six months of the year, up 51.6 percent from the same period last year.
And the fire disasters incurred 5.85 million yuan (about 704, 819 US dollars) in direct economic losses, according to the report.
Rural and urban homes were listed in the first place as venues of the fire disasters. Carelessness in the use of electrical appliances and of fuel as well as smoking were blamed for the rising fire disasters in the city.
